Apex Humbuckers deliver the tone of vintage Wide Range Humbuckers and Stratocaster pickups.  We started with a great-sounding single coil similar to what you would find in a Strat; vintage-spec bobbins, alnico 5 poles, plain-enamel wire, 5.6K neck, and 6.5K bridge.  With an added coil wired in series, these pickups become similar in output to Wide Range Humbuckers, with magnetized poles just like the originals from the ’70s, capturing a “wider range” of tones than typical steel-poled humbuckers.  Available in 50mm and 53mm 6 hole covers in brass, silver-nickel, or black.  These will fit in any humbucker-equipped guitar with standard 2.75″x1.50″ routs.  For Gibson spacing order 50mm neck and bridge, for Fender order a 53mm bridge.

push/pull potentiometer

Use a stealthy double-pole/double-throw switch like this one in place of your tone or volume control.  In normal position the Apex humbucker is connected in series as usual, pull up on the switch and the coils are split and the tone is pure single coil.  The rotating knob still operates like a normal volume or tone control.  The switch fits into most stock routs without modification to the pickguard or body.  The cavity depth required is 1 and 5/64″.    Click here for a wiring diagram.
